Host Pella Christian pounded out 13 hits against North Mahaska Tuesday en route to a 10-1 Class 2A victory. The contest may have been a preview of a possible regional softball semifinal as the teams are both in the Regin 2 bracket.

A solo home run to left field by Regan Grewe put North Mahaska on the board in the top of the second inning. The Warhawks managed just two more baserunners. Kayla Readshaw walked after Grewe’s dinger and Kylie Van Weelden singled in the fifth inning.

Laurel Roozeboom kept the Warhawks off balance with a change-up that they could not catch up to. Roozeboom fanned five batters over six innings. She yielded two hits and a walk.

In the bottom of the third inning, Pella Christian jumped into the lead with four runs on five hits and an error. Amaia Agre doubled, Rachel Kacmarynski singled then advanced on a double and Faith Kacmarynski and Chloe Snyder rapped back-to-back singles.

Regan Grewe jogs down the third base line after sending a softball over the left field fence for North Mahaska’s lone run in a 10-1 loss at Pella Christian.

The Eagles added two runs in the fifth and ended the contest early with five runs in the sixth.

“We had trouble with her pitch and just couldn’t hit it,” said NM coach Mark Schroeder. “I thought our defense was pretty good. They are just good hitters.”

Jolan Fogle took the loss for North Mahaska. The hurler went five and one-third innings, giving up 10 runs (six earned) on 13 hits, walking one. She took four pitches off her leg by the hard-hitting Eagles.

Jolan is a tough kid,” said Schroeder. “She took some hard hits but hung in there.”

North Mahaska hosts Pleasantville on Wednesday for their final regular season game. It will also be senior night for Grewe, Readshaw, and Cali Sampson. They will enter Class 2A regional play on Wednesday, July 9 when they host Cardinal.
