North Mahaska scored in all but the fourth inning Monday and pounded out 10 hits to secure an 11-1 South Iowa Cedar League win over Keota. It was a matter of North Mahaska’s experience and Keota’s youthfulness that made the difference.
North Mahaska (5-5) scored a run on the first and two more in the second for a 3-0 lead. Addy Purkeypile’s leadoff walk, an error and a pair of walks led to the Eagles’ only run. Kennedy Jackson’s single in the sixth was the lone Keota hit.
Four consecutive singles and a Jocelyn Pinkerton two-run homer put the Warhawks securely in front. They added two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to end the contest an inning early.
“We were able to take advantage of some things against Keota,” said NM coach Mark Schroeder.
Keota (0-5) walked three times but could not get the timely hit to score more than once. Purkeypile took the loss going 4 1/3 innings allowing 10 runs on 10 bits., three walks and two strikeouts. Jackson finished the game allowing a run on three walks.
Pinkerton hit a double and homerun to drive in two runs and Kaylia Shipman had a double and two singles with an RBI to lead North Mahaska.
Pinkerton picked up the win from the circle tossing a no-hitter. She allowed a run on three hits and three strikeouts. Regan Grewe pitched in relief with two strikeouts and no hits.
