Dear Students & Parents,
There have been some questions regarding how grades/credits will be given for the 2nd semester as well as whether students are required to participate in the online activities or complete the paper packets.
We “Expect the Best” from our students and encourage them to show Warhawk P.R.I.D.E. (perseverance, respect, integrity, discipline, and effort) in all they do. Please keep those cornerstones in mind as we continue to navigate this uncharted territory.
9th-11th Grades
- If you were passing a course(s)at the end of the 3rd quarter, we would encourage you to still participate as much as possible because no matter what, you will have to move forward with your classes. If you do not participate, you will have gaps in your learning which could make your next classes more difficult. However, if you were passing and you choose to not participate you will be given a “P” for passing your courses. Again, I want to stress, while participation is voluntary, it is STRONGLY recommended for all students no matter what their grades were when school closed.
- If you were failing a course(s) at the end of the 3rd quarter and you participate in a way that shows you are engaged and attempting to move forward with your learning, teachers will give you a “P” for passing for the semester. If you choose to do nothing, you will be given an “I” for incomplete. Once school begins in the fall you will have approximately 6 weeks to complete whatever the teachers feel is necessary for you to obtain the credit. It is important to understand that this would be IN ADDITION to whatever classes you will have for next school year. If after those 6 weeks, you have still done nothing, the “I” for incomplete that was given will be changed to an “F” and you may need to participate in a credit recovery course.
- P’s will be entered as an “A” in our GPA scale so that we hold students harmless
7th-8th Grades
- Because no credits are earned and no GPA’s are calculated, all 7th & 8th grade students will be given “P” for their courses at the end of the 2nd semester. They WILL NOT be making up or recovering any credits at the beginning of next school year. Again, as I stated above, if you do not participate, you will have gaps in your learning which could make your next classes more difficult. Please do yourself a favor and engage in this time of learning. March to August is a long time to not engage your brain!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I normally check my voicemail at school only once per week, so email may be quicker: goemaata@nmwarhawks.org . I also encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions regarding grades, your child’s engagement, or questions about content. Those email addresses can be found on the school website.
Take care, stay safe, and remember… show your #WarhawkPRIDE365!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amber Goemaat
