Positive Case of COVID-19 Confirmed / Reopening Plan Updated to Masks Required

Dear North Mahaska parents, staff and community members:

We have learned that a member of our North Mahaska CSD staff has tested positive for COVID-19. I am writing to update you with some important information and to reassure you that the North Mahaska CSD continues to take every step possible to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.

The individual who has tested positive was in attendance at our inservice days on Monday and Tuesday. They have not been in contact with students. The district is working with the Mahaska County Public Health and anyone who was in direct contact with this person through the school setting has been contacted. I want to remind our staff and students: if you have symptoms of COVID-19, you should contact your physician immediately.

We are following the CDC guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting. We encourage all of you to continue following the CDC’s recommendations to remain healthy and well. Our greatest priority is the safety of our students, staff and families.

Our original reopening plan stated, “masks strongly encouraged” where social distancing is not possible. Now that we have a confirmed case of COVID in our school, masks will be required for all students, staff, and visitors (unless a documented medical or religious reason necessitates otherwise). We will reevaluate our plan on an on-going basis and update as new information becomes available. Please continue to take necessary precautions to protect yourself and those around you.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your family, especially as we face this challenging situation together. Thank you for your support of the North Mahaska Community School District.

Sincerely,
Angela Livezey, Elementary Principal / Superintendent
