KEOTA – Cross country runners from North Mahaska performed well overall at the Keota Invitational meet on Thursday, Sept. 10. High school boys finished second at the co-ed meet for junior and senior high teams.
Columbus placed first in the varsity boys meet with 45 points. North Mahaska had runners place fifth through seventh to spark the Warhawks to 50 points. Anthony Goemaat led the way in fifth in 19 minutes 18 seconds. Nate Sampson was sixth in 19:30 and Lane Harmon took seventh in 19:40.
Rounding out the scoring was Braden Veiseth in 20:12 to take 13th and Grant Smith was 19th in 21:41. Brady Sterling was 32nd in 23:11.
On the girl’s side, North Mahaska did not have enough for a team score, but all four finished in the top 23. Natalie LaRue ran sixth in 24:19 with Addie Schilling placing 10th in 25:08. Claira Bacon was 20th in 27:35 and Kelsey Comstock placed 23rd in 28:44.
Junior high teams also competed well. In the girl’s contest, Allie Steil and Allie Veiseth took the top two spots. Steil was first in 11:04 with Veiseth just behind min 11:06. Ammesson Jedlicka was fifth in 11:09 and Fallon Rivera was 38th in 19:20.
Ben Yang paced the junior high boys in 10:04 to take fifth. Asher DeBoef also finished in the top 10 taking seventh in 10:14. Kincaid Mitchell was 27th in 12:31; Bronson Edwards-Hinta was 40th in 14:28 and Larry Wheeler ran 41st in 17:21.
