North Mahaska topped another South Iowa Cedar League softball team as the league enters its final week before regionals. NM defeated Colfax-Mingo at home 7-0 on Wednesday.

NM scored two runs in the bottom of the first and third and limited the Tigerhawks to just seven baserunners, three of them in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

Madison McKay and Regan Grewe each walked to open the Warhawk half of the first inning. McKay later scored on Breanna Fogle’s single. Grewe was tagged out and Fogle scored on Colby Sampson’s single.

In the third, McKay led off with a triple and scored on a Fogle double. Fogle scored when Zoe Deucore reached on an error.

C-M put two runners on with one out in the fifth but could not advance past second. The Tigerhawks’ best chance was in the sixth when the leadoff hitter reached on an error and advanced to third on back-to-back singles. The North Mahaska defense shut the door.
Fogle and Sampson each had two hits in the game. Fogle had a single and double with two RBIs. Sampson had a pair of singles with an RBI.

McKay picked up the win going the distance. She struck out five with no walks and scattering five hits.
