North Mahaska will host Melcher-Dallas in the first round of the Class 1A volleyball regional tournament according to brackets released Thursday by the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union. Melcher-Dallas is currently 5-12 on the season while North Mahaska is 15-12.
North Mahaska will play in the South Iowa Cedar League tournament before taking on M-D, a member of the Bluegrass Conference at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18. Both teams are in the lower half of the Region 6 bracket. The winner of the NM-MD match will advance to the regional quarterfinal to be played at Montezuma on Wednesday, Oct. 20. The opponent will be the winner of the Montezuma-Twin Cedars contest.
Wednesday’s winner will play in the regional semifinal at North Tama on Monday, Oct. 25. North Tama is currently 13-6 on the season and ranked 13th in Class 1A. The top side of the bracket includes No. 4 Lisbon along with South Iowa Cedar League foes Sigourney and Tri-County, who play each other in the first round.
