North Mahaska’s basketball team jumped up in competition hosting Class 2A Chariton Jan. 17 in a nonconference tilt and used a strong start to post a 62-29 victory. North Mahaska was powered by Nash Smith’s 28 points.
North Mahaska (10-1) quadrupled the score on the visiting Chargers with a 16-4 lead and never looked back. Smith drained four
3-pointers and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the foul line. He also grabbed five rebounds and three steals. Ethan Huffman was 50 percent from the field and hit for 15 points with seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
Lane Harmon had an impressive line with eight points, eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists. The Warhawks recorded 17 steals and 17 assists and forced 27 Charger turnovers.
Quinton Gruwell led Chariton with eight points and seven rebounds.
