North Mahaska boys raced to a fourth place finish at the final regular season track Meet Monday at Montezuma. BGM won the meet with 161 points followed by Belle Plaine with 140 and Montezuma scored 92.5. NM scored 80.
North Mahaska picked up two wins, two seconds and five third place finishes to take the fourth spot. The Warhawks suffered four disqualifications to hinder scoring more points.
Lane Harmon and Asher DeBoef took the top two spots in the 1,600 meters. Harmon won the event in 5 minutes 7.15 seconds while DeBoef was second in 5:18.23. Brayden Veiseth and Ben Yang added a second and third in 2:19.90 and 2:27.98 respectively. Kaleb Stout, Lucas Nunnikhoven, Andy Knockel and Sean Knockel won the sprint medley in 1:41.21. Nunnikhoven picked up a third in the 400 hurdles in 1:14.08.
North Mahaska’s 400-meter relay team of Stout, A. Knockel, Nunnikhoven and S. Knockel took bronze in 46.05. The 1,600 relay team of Veiseth, Yang, DeBoef and Nate Sampson covered the course in 3:59.71 for third place. The Warhawk quartet of Hunter Wernli, Dawson DeBoef, A. DeBoef and Yang was third in 4:18.05.
North Mahaska will join other Class 1A teams for a state qualifying meet on Thursday, May 12. North Mahaska qualifies at Wayne of Corydon.
