North Mahaska’s matmen returned to action Tuesday at Chariton and pinned the host Chargers 48-33 then defeated Fairfield 42-32. The Warhawks had five wrestlers go 2-0 and five more split wins to power the victories.
The meet also signaled the return of senior 285-pounder Trace Goemaat, who has missed the start of the season to an injury suffered during football. He made the most of his return pinning Dakota Wilson of Chariton in 4 minutes 51 seconds then took just 16 seconds to pin Fairfield’s Kegan Pilcher.
Hunter Wernli at 138 pounds pinned Kaleb Carr of Chariton in 45 seconds and Elijah Simons of Fairfield in 5:04. Peter Stout duplicated the effort at 152 with wins over Kenton Jensen of Chariton in 1:28 and Aiden Lyons of Fairfield in 3:00.
Wyatt Van Weelden at 170 and Joel DeJong at 120 also pinned both of their opponents. Van Weelden pinned Chariton’s Griffin Willis in 1:02 and Aiden Westercamp of Fairfield in 1:20. DeJong took down Chariton’s Octavio Garcia in 3:12 and Matthew Kensel in 59 seconds.
Winning by pin was Ryan Groom over Dylan Chandler of Chariton in 3:29. At 132 pounds, Dylan Meland pinned Chariton’s Jacobie Garland in 1:42. Matt German picked up a win by forfeit.
North Mahaska returns to action Thursday at Iowa Valley against Sigourney and Mount Pleasant.
