North Mahaska ventured to Albia Saturday to open volleyball tourney play and finished second to the hosts and finished 3-2 in matches on the day. The Warhawks defeated Moravia in the opener 21-17, 21-18 then fell to Pleasantville 21-17, 21-14.
They faced Albia in pool play and was victorious 21-8 and 21-17. NM defeated Seymour 21-14, 21-19 to advance to the title match where they met Albia again.
In the championship match the teams went three sets. NM won the opener 21-17 but Albia rallied for a 21-8 win in the second. A tightly contested third set went to the host Lady Dees 15-12.
Stats were available from three of the matches. Against Moravia, Breckyn Schilling collected four kills and three blocks. Regan Grewe recorded four kills and Sydney Andersen had three. Ally Livezey recorded eight digs and Libby Hargis had six. Grewe and Hargis each earned two service aces.
Andersen and Grewe led the Warhawks in kills in the first match with Albia. Gracie DeGeest was credited with eight digs and Andersen had three aces. Schilling had the team’s lone block.
Schilling led NM in kills with six against Pleasantville. Livezey and Grewe recorded seven digs and DeGeest had six. Grewe and Hargis each recorded five aces.
North Mahaska hosts No. 8 New London Tuesday.
