Five players and a coach earned honors by the South Iowa Cedar League coaches. Junior Regan Grewe earned a first team nod while Libby Hargis notched a place on the second team. Coach Erica Groom was named Coach of the Year.
North Mahaska finished the season 19-11 overall in their first year in Class 2A. They finished third in conference play at 8-2. Groom, who just completed her third year as coach, has compiled a 57-34 record.
Grewe, who was a power at the net, was 13th in the league in kills with 164 and seventh in digs with 301. She was third in the league in service aces with 56 on 91.1 percent serving. She went 317-for-348 from the line.
Hargis was 12th in the SICL in assists with 256; 16th in aces with 33 on 305/319 attempts; and 37th in digs with 175.
Junior Ally Livezey recorded 41 assists, 12 kills, 28 service aces and 280 digs to earn honorable mention. Sydney Andersen, another junior, was credited with 146 kills, 13 assists, and 44 service aces.
Cali Sampson, who was injured, received the Golden Award, which goes to a player who had it not been for injury would have contributed to the team’s success.
