It was a windy day for a run but North Mahaska’s junior high cross country teams competed well at the 27th Annual Dick Washburn State Meet for middle schoolers. North Mahaska girls placed sixth in the team race while the boys garnered 11th.

In the girl’s competition, 14 teams competed and a total of 144 runners. Logan-Magnolia took the team title with 22 points followed by Earlham with 56. NM posted 117 points. Top individual girl was Noelle Steines, an eighth grader from Calamus-Wheatland in 10 minutes 46.9 seconds. Seventh grader Aly Steil paced North Mahaska taking 41st overall and 19th in the team race with a time of 13:10.9. Emmerson Jedlicka, seventh grade, was 23rd in 13:19.8. Seventh grader Allie Veiseth took 29th in 13:35.9 and eighth grader Kayla Readshaw rounded out the team scoring in 46th in 14:30.0. Eighth grader Breckyn Schilling finished in 14:55.9 and seventh grader Falynn Rivera covered the course in 19:31.5.

IKM-Manning took the boys’ team title with 56 points. North Mahaska placed 11th in the 18-team, 164 runner race with 158 points. English Valleys eighth grader Gage Heyne took individual honors in 10:35. Troy Klett, a seventh grader from Sigourney, was first in the team race in 11:00.8.

North Mahaska placed two in the top 10 of the team race. Seventh grader Ben Yang placed seventh in 11:27.8 Eighth grader Asher DeBoef took 10th in 11:36.7. Kincaid Mitchell , eighth grade, was 54th in 13:15.1 followed by eighth grader Bronson Edwards-Hinton in 87th with a time of 16:38.6. Seventh grader Larry Mohr finished 93rd in 17:54.1.
