Hundreds of fans gathered at Diamond Trail Golf Course Sept. 16 for the Lynnville-Sully Invitational cross country meet and with ranked teams and individuals the meet did not disappoint. In Class 1A it was a battle between No. 20 Pella Christian, No. 13 North
Mahaska and No. 14 Collins-Maxwell.
Pella Christian’s boys scored four in the top 11 to win the meet title with 46 points. North Mahaska was second with 65 and
Collins-Maxwell was a distant third with 102.
North Mahaska jumped in the top 20 rankings this week and had all five runners finish between 10th and 16th. Sophomore Nate
Sampson paced the Warhawks in 19 minutes 16 seconds. Fellow sophomore Brayden Veiseth was 12th in 19:36, freshman Asher
DeBoef 13th in 19:51, senior Anthony Goemaat was 14th in 19:51 and last year’s state qualifier Lane Harmon, a junior, ran 16th in 20:21.
Running but not scoring were freshman Ben Yang in 22nd spot in 20:52, sophomore Andy Knockel ran 30th in 22:13 and freshman Kincaid Mitchell finished 35th in 22:28.
Addie Schilling was the lone female from North Mahaska. She placed 41st in the 65-woman race in 28:23.
