North Mahaska captured another cross country meet title for the boys and freshman Aly Steil placed third in the girls race at English Valleys Tuesday. The boys won the team meet with 19 points led by Lane Harmon and Brayden Veiseth taking first and second in the team race.
Harmon outdueled English Valleys’ Gage Heyne for the top spot overall. Harmon finished in 18 minutes 52.36 a second ahead of Heyne who finished in 18:53.64. English Valleys does not have enough runners for a team placing so Veiseth’s 18:54.65 was good for third overall and second in the team standings.
North Mahaska placed seven runners in the top 20. Deacon Duff, who led second place Wilton, placed fourth overall and third in the team race. Asher DeBoef and Nate Sampson took the next two spots for North Mahaska in 19:42.32 and 19:45.56 respectively. Ben Yang was 10th overall in 20:45.71 and Andy Knockel was 12th in 21:03. Also running was Clay Thompson in 27th, 23:22.61; Mitchell Kincaid 33rd, 23:51.83 and Larry Mohr, 55th in 29:43.19.
Steil was 23 seconds behind winner Audra Coss of Wilton. Coss finished in 23:07.18, Ellie Yates of Sigourney was second in 23:18.73 while Steil covered the field in 23:30.41. Breckyn Schilling ran her first race of the season placing 26th in 30”39.25 and Vanessa Murphy was 28th in 37:00.
In the junior high race, no girls participated due to injury. In the boys’ race, Maddox Wynja was eighth in 12:59.84 and Cain Grandia was 34th in 18:02.34.
The team has a fast turnaround with a meet at Lynnville Thursday.
