Three North Mahaska middle school students competed against more than 350 runners at Ankeny Saturday in the 29th annual Middle School State Cross Country meet. The event was sponsored by Ankeny Centennial.
Eighth grader Maddox Wynja had the best finish of the trio taking 46th out of 190 runners in 13 minutes 4.08 seconds. Seventh grader Evan Lillie of Council Bluff St. Albert was the winner in 10:59. Cain Grandia finished 149th in 15:10.4.
Aly Mohr, an eighth grader, was the lone Warhawk female to compete. She was in a field of 163 and placed 117th. She covered the course in 16:39.8.
The event ended the official season for the middle school students. North Mahaska’s high school runners will vie for a chance run at state Thursday when they travel to Leon Central Decatur. The NM boys team is currently ranked 16th.
