Brad Leedom of the New Sharon Fire Department talks with Amanda Ross’s kindergarten class about the different types of equipment and gear firefighters use. Students had a chance to put on the gear, pick up the tools, get into a fire truck and walk through a smokehouse. Fire officials came to the North Mahaska campus on Friday as part of fire prevention week. Each of the elementary classes had the opportunity to visit with the firefighters about their job and try on the gear.
