North Mahaska fell in the opening round of the Gold Bracket of the South Iowa Cedar League volleyball tournament Thursday. The lost a three-set match to Belle Plaine, 25-12, 9-25, 13-15.
North Mahaska came out on fire in the first set and was able to double up the Plainsmen, but the Belle Plaine team rallied to take the next two sets. Following a 21-ace night against English Valleys Monday, the hard-digging Plainsmen limited NM to just one.
North Mahaska, 19-10, was held to 20 kills on the night led by Sydney Andersen with seven. Kieren Perez added four and Regan Grewe three. Nataliya Linder recorded the teams two blocks.
Grewe led the Warhawks in digs with 13 while Ally Livezey and Gracie DeGeest were credited with 11 apiece. Libby Hargis had five digs and 12 assists.
Janessa Blomme and Kayleah Laughlin led the Plainsmen (18-12) in kills with nine and seven respectively. They each recorded a block. Layne McLeod doled out 25 assists.
North Mahaska will enter Class 2A regional play Wednesday at Pleasantville. Game time is 7 p.m.
